Black Mask #51 October 1, 1923 Trimmed (Pro-Distribution) Condition: GD. John Decker cover. Includes "Arson Plus" by Dashiell Hammett (pseudonymous), which features the first appearance of The Continental Op, one of the earliest hard-boiled detective characters and a recurring character for the title. Lee Server's Danger is My Business describes the story as introducing "the distinctive style that changed the face of American mystery writing." This issue also includes a letter from Hammett himself discussing the story. Bookery's notes as "especially scarce", and we've never offered this issue before.
Front cover trimmed along outer edge. Tape to spine and covers, whiteout to front cover and one page (does not affect story), writing/scribbling in pen on covers and interiors. Bookery's Guide to Pulps Second Edition GD value = $800.
