Description

All-Story - October 1912 The First Appearance of Tarzan (Munsey) Condition: Coverless. The first appearance of Tarzan in any medium, and the single most valuable pulp magazine, considered exceedingly rare with probably fewer than 20 copies in existence (This copy is one of only nine sold by Heritage over the past 20 years). Printed 110 years ago on cheap paper made from untreated wood pulp, it's a small miracle that any have survived at all.
"Tarzan of the Apes" was Edgar Rice Burroughs' second published work, and the first under his own name. This version preceded the McClurg book edition by almost two years and varies textually in a number of respects.
Alas, the iconic cover is missing from this copy, which is otherwise complete. The spine is mostly intact, and the pages are light tan and very supple, with a little wear to their edges. The bottom right corners are missing from the first three pages, slightly affecting the text. Bookery's Guide to Pulps Second Edition GD value = $15,000.
