Description

All-Story #94 October 1912 (Frank A. Munsey Company) CGC FR/GD 1.5 Off-white pages. Whether you've been collecting pulps for decades or you've never bought a pulp before, this is the pulp to own! The first appearance of Tarzan makes this the "Action Comics #1 of pulps", although it is even rarer and perhaps even more influential than that holy grail of comics. Despite All-Story running for decades, this book is referred to by most as simply "the All-Story", an unassuming moniker for what is the most valuable and sought-after of all pulps.
We've encountered less than ten complete copies of this book to date, and even fewer without trimming or restoration. Bookery's describes it as "RARE: probably fewer than 20 existing copies" and there are currently only two unrestored copies on CGC's census. This unrestored copy has incredible eye appeal and would make an excellent centerpiece in any collection.
The classic cover by Clinton Pettee features "Tarzan of the Apes" in action, the first-ever image of the beloved jungle hero, and is a stark break from the more mundane covers that typically graced pulps at the time. Edgar Rice Burroughs' second published story and the first under his own name proved an indescribable hit, immediately spawning interest in sequels following this new breed of adventuring hero. Without Tarzan, there would be no Shadow, Doc Savage, Batman, or Superman.
The last comparable sale we presided over was a raw FR/GD copy in 2022, which sold for $48,000, and this copy is far superior to that one. As the pulp market has expanded in recent years, this book is more valuable now than ever and gaining more interest every year, an impressive feat for a book over 110 years old! Bookery's Guide to Pulps Second Edition 2020 GD value = $15,000; VG value = $35,0000; VF value = $90,000. CGC census 5/25: 1 in 1.5, 1 higher.
