Description

The Romance of Money #nn First Edition (Natamsa Publishing Co., 1937) CGC VG 4.0 White pages. Jack Kirby's first comic book art! Yes, this little unassuming 24-page 5" x 6.25" booklet carries some very important comic book history. Although all art pages are signed "H. T. Elmo," the real identity of the artist was one Jacob Kurtzberg, better known today as Jack Kirby. Jack had taken a job with the Lincoln Newspaper Syndicate in 1936, where H. T. Elmo was in charge of preparing comic strips like Detective Riley and Sally Snickers. Elmo assigned the job of drawing this comic, designed for banks to give as a premium, to Kirby, and it stands as his first professional comic book art, although he had done some newspaper strip work for Lincoln. Not listed in Overstreet. CGC census 10/25: 1 in 4.0, 2 higher.
