Description

The Comics Magazine #1 (Comics Magazine, 1936) CGC VG- 3.5 Off-white pages. A rare book with a Gerber scarcity rating of 7 -- we've only offered three different copies in our history, this being the nicest. The issue has dropped out of Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics list, but only because no Guide value above VF is listed. This is one of the first 50 comics ever published (May '36 cover date). It has the first appearance of Siegel and Shuster's Dr. Mystic, aka Dr. Occult, a Superman prototype who was next seen in DC's More Fun Comics #14. When this comic hit newsstands, it was the only series other than DC's More Fun and New Comics to have original content rather than strip reprints. It has interior art by Sheldon Mayer and Walt Kelly, and the baseball cover is attributed to Vin Sullivan. This series turned into the Centaur title Funny Pages. Overstreet 2018 VG 4.0 value = $7,600. CGC census 8/18: 2 in 3.5, 3 higher.
