Syndicate Features V1#3 (Chesler, 1937) Condition: VF. This specacular four-page tabloid flyer, dated November 15, 1937, was circulated to newspaper editors to promote the science fiction adventure strip "Dan Hastings" (though this flyer is designated issue 3, it's the only issue that was produced). The front page features biographies on two Golden Age greats, writer Ken Fitch and artist Fred Guardineer. The late Guardineer is known to many as one of the artists who contributed to Action Comics #1... which came out the year after this piece! The flyer prints 14 "IDan Hastings" dailies with Guardineer art. The item provides an insight into the comics production of the Harry "A" Chesler packaging shop, which eventually included such Golden Age stalwarts as Rafael Astarita, Creig Flessel, Charlie Sultan, Charles Biro, Bob Wood, Gil; Fox, Wade Wellman, and Otto Binder. The four-page flyer, all copies of which came folded according to Overstreet, is 11.5" x 17.75". This is the first copy we've ever seen here at Heritage. Since even the mass-produced comic books from the Platinum Age are a rarity, a bit of memorabilia such as this is a scarce item indeed. Overstreet 2004 VF 8.0 value = $1,800.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
