Mickey Mouse Magazine #1 (K. K. Publications/ Western Publishing Co., 1935) Condition: FN. Historically it's one of the most important comic publications ever, the title eventually morphing into a more "traditional" style comic book in 1940, occasioned by a title change to Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. In 1935 it was more an activities book, with puzzles, games, cels, stories, and comics of Disney characters. It was a large format -- 13.25" x 10.25", and used as a promotional magazine for Disney cartoon movies and paraphernalia.
This copy presents even nicer than the FN grade we've assigned to it, which still places it in rare company among all copies we've offered over the years. In over 12 years, we've offered higher-graded copies on just three occasions, and two of those were barely nicer at FN+! Not surprising, given that Overstreet doesn't even list a grade higher than VF/NM, and The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books rates it a "7" or "scarce" on its scarcity index.
The inside page quality is very impressive for a book that's nearly 80 years old, ranging from cream to off-white pages. Among all the puzzles and games, only two appear "used" and neither severely. The connect-the-dot puzzle on page 5 appears to have been filled out lightly in pencil, then erased. On the "Color Up This Page" (page 11), some light blue and pink pastel color has been neatly applied to a small portion of the page. The other puzzles and games are uncharacteristically clean. Overstreet 2013 FN 6.0 value = $4,275.
