Famous Funnies #3 (Eastern Color, 1934) Condition: Apparent FN/VF. This is the first comic book appearance of Buck Rogers, and a rare Gerber "8" at that! Famous Funnies is one of the most historically significant comic series of all, in fact it's the first monthly newsstand comic title. In addition to Buck's first appearance, there's a plethora of other features, the best known being Joe Palooka by Ham Fisher and Mutt and Jeff by Bud Fisher. This copy can't be slabbed by CGC due to an overhang, so you can actually have a look inside this Platinum Age wonder. This copy has moderate professional restoration, and it's one of the best restoration jobs we've seen in a while. The page quality is quite nice, too -- the pages are cream with a wee bit of tanning at the edges. The restoration work is as follows: cover cleaned, staples supported, bindery chips filled, color touch along spine, and color touch along a subscription crease. Overstreet 2005 GD 2.0 value = $733; VG 4.0 value = $1,467; FN 6.0 value = $2,200; VF 8.0 value = $5,500.
