Famous Funnies #3 (Eastern Color, 1934) CGC GD/VG 3.0 Off-white pages. The first comic book appearance of Buck Rogers makes this issue quite collectible, but try finding a copy of this Gerber "8." The modern comic book might never have come into existence were it not for Famous Funnies, which was the first regularly published comic series in the modern format. Like most of the earliest comics, this one is chock-full of one-page or even half-page strips, which is how they reached the total of 100 strips that's advertised on the cover. Mutt and Jeff and Joe Palooka are perhaps the biggest names other than Mr. Rogers. Putting together a run of the early issues would be quite a challenge, and you should be loath to pass this one up! Overstreet 2006 GD 2.0 value = $773; VG 4.0 value = $1,546. CGC census 10/06: 1 in 3.0, 2 higher.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
