    Description

Detective Comics #2 (DC, 1937) CGC FN/VF 7.0 Cream to off-white pages. Everyone has something to say about this issue: Overstreet cites it as "rare"; and Gerber's The Photo-Journal Guide To Comic Books gives it an outrageous "9" or "Very Rare". We concur, having offered only four unrestored copies over the past 10 years, with only one nicer than VG! CGC has certified a mere eight unrestored copies to date, and just three of those garnered grades higher than VG/FN 5.0! Creig Flessel did the cover; Superman co-creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster contributed scripting and interior art respectively. Overstreet 2012 FN 6.0 value = $12,000; VF 8.0 value = $28,000. CGC census 7/12: 1 in 7.0, 1 higher.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
