Detective Comics #2 (DC, 1937) CGC Apparent FN+ 6.5 Slight (A) Off-white pages. It's our most sincere pleasure to offer an impressive selection of the earliest issues of the title that gave DC Comics its name. This second issue is even tougher to find than #1 -- it's a Gerber "9" or "very rare" and is also called "rare" by Overstreet, who ranks it among the Top 100 Golden Age Comic Books. As was the case for #1, this issue has multiple detective features, the most notable of which are Slam Bradley and "Bart Regan, Spy." Both characters' features were written by Jerry Siegel and drawn by Joe Shuster, both of whom would soon produce Superman. The simple but striking cover is by Creig Flessel, the cover artist of choice for all of the extremely early Detective issues. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: spine split sealed, tear seals, centerfold reinforced with glue." Overstreet 2015 GD 2.0 value = $4,600; VG 4.0 value = $9,200; FN 6.0 value = $13,800.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
