Description

Gene Fawcette Our New Age Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-11-74 (Field Enterprises, 1974). The future of spaceflight gets a pre-launch preview. Fawcette looks ahead to NASA's developing Space Shuttle program, illustrating how the reusable spacecraft was expected to operate years before it ever left the launchpad. The Shuttle would not make its first flight until 1981, giving this piece a fascinating early glimpse at the technology that would define the next era of American space exploration. Created in ink over blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 21.75" x 14.75". An onion skin overlay with crayon shading used as a color guide is taped to the top margin. Light toning, smudging/soiling on the edges, stat logo paste-up, and corner/handling wear. In Very Good condition.
From the Roger Hill Collection.
