Jerome Podwil Echo of a Texas Rifle Paperback Cover Painting Illustration Original Art (Ace Books, 1967). Podwil depicts a gunfighter wielding a smoking pistol, although the published title is Echo of a Texas Rifle, a novel by Kyle Hollingshead. No matter -- the image stands nicely on its own, whatever the firearm. Novelist Hollingshead was best known for the Ransome series of Westerns. Podwil's mastery of mood and setting made him a favorite among the publishers of paperback novels, whether in SF, Gothic romance, or frontier action. This deep-textured oil composition confines the gunfighter to the lower-left quadrant, leaving plenty of open space for the presentation of the title. Heavyweight board, measuring 10" x 15" edge-to-edge. Handling wear is evident in the border areas. Very Good condition.Auction Info
