Winsor McCay Little Nemo in Slumberland Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 7-18-09 (New York Herald, 1909). Nemo, Flip, and Kiddo the Clown have been searching everywhere for Slumberland, and for weeks the ground would change beneath their feet in each place they found themselves. This time, instead of glorious Slumberland appearing from below, they witness the birth of an active volcano! Splendid early Nemo page, featuring the fine-line art of Winsor McCay. In this page, McCay has nicely contrasted the lighter figures with solid black backgrounds. The art is in ink on two pieces of board, with an approximate combined image area of 21.5" x 27.5", matted and framed with glass for an overall size of 29.5" x 35". For artwork that is well over one hundred years old, it remains in remarkable shape; there are a few scattered stains and some very minor tanning; otherwise Excellent condition. This one is sure to be the centerpiece of someone's collection!
