    Description

Will Eisner Spirit Section Complete 7-Page Story "Lonesome Cool" Original Art dated 12-18-49 (Will Eisner, 1949). The Spirit narrates the saga of a young punk who climbs up the ladder of success by running roughshod over everyone he sees -- including his own mother -- and gets taken down in a most unusual and memorable way. This classic story, including a great splash page incorporating the Spirit logo, was drawn by Eisner himself, shortly before he shifted his personal focus to educational comics, allowing his assistants to take over art duties for the final two years of the strip's run. The art is in ink and graphite on Bristol board, with several panels done in Craftint board and glued in place. The art has an average image area of 14" x 19.25", and is in Very Good overall condition, with some minor stains in the image areas, and glue stains along the bottom border areas. The Spirit masthead on page one is a recent replacement. Eisner's own hand-lettered file envelope which housed the artwork for the past seven decades is included; it's a nice bonus for history-minded collectors.
Any chance to see a Spirit story page from Eisner's much-loved post-WWII period is essential for original comic art fans; to find a complete story this great on the market is simply amazing. Don't let this one slip by!
