    Description

Warren Tufts Casey Ruggles Original Art dated 10-18-51 (United Feature Syndicate, 1951). A bit of back-story lends helpful context to this sequence involving the widow of a prosperous miner -- a recent suicide, it seems -- and a mysterious suitor. Tufts' lavish environmental composition, with an aerial establishing shot, establishes the widow's wealth and the suitor's eagerness: "I imagine you'll be mighty lonely here..." A sense of mystery hovers over the rainswept scene. One of the more elegantly conceived Western features, Casey Ruggles ran during 1949-55 -- abandoned to lesser hands by originator Tufts in 1954 following an angered dispute with the syndicate. His irreplaceable mastery is fully evident in this example. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 18.25" x 5". Lightly toned and in Excellent condition.
