Wally Wood World of the Wizard King a.k.a. King of the World Original Preliminary Artwork/Logotypes/Hand-Lettering Group of 10 (1960s-70s). Wood envisioned his Wizard King epic, an Arthurian fantasy, with all the bold confidence of a Cecil B. DeMille -- but a DeMille without corporate anchorage. Wood wound up publishing the masterwork in halt-and-go fashion, partly in his defiant DIY magazine, Witzend. This array of 10-plus conceptual pieces (with spinoff materials) includes some grand logotypes and tentative designs, accompanied by innumerable annotated scraps in that inimitable style of handwriting. Some printed material is included. There is also a stencilled heading for Wood's notorious "Shit List," which he kept as a census of colleagues, hangers-on, and employers who had wronged or disappointed him -- a nice guy, but easily offended and vulnerable to crippling grudges. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Dimensions, letter-size to notepad-size. Average Very Good condition.
