    Description

Wally Wood Three Dimensional EC Classics #1 "V-Vampires!" Splash Page 1 Original Art (EC, 1954). Wood's story "V-Vampires!" first appeared just over a year before this in MAD #3, and it was obvious that it was a "Classic" already! For this 3-D issue, he meticulously re-drew the entire story on multiple layers of acetate, using a similar technique to that used in animation. The figures were inked onto the reverse of the acetate sheets, and then white paint and Zipatone were added for shading and depth. This method allowed them to print the various layers slightly out of register in red and green ink, making them appear 3-D when viewed with special glasses. It was a time consuming process, but transformed what was already fantastic Wally Wood art into something otherworldly. There are five layers produced in this method and then a screened sheet of vellum with grey tone wash as a background. They are stapled together and have an image area of 13" x 18". Signed in the lower left. In Excellent condition.
