Wally Wood Mad #35 "Henry" and "Phantom" Panels from Comic-Strip Parody Original Art (EC Publ., 1957). Wood's deadeye accuracy at mimicking other cartoonists made him an essential talent at MAD . These spoofs of Carl Anderson's Henry and Lee Falk's The Phantom come from a wide-ranging spoof called "If Comic-Strip Characters Answered Those Little Ads." The published version showed mute character Henry answering a voice-coaching notice; and the purple-hued Phantom sending off for a skin-disease remedy. Bonus: Wood crams in such other characters as Nancy and Sluggo, Little Lulu, Kayo Mullins, Beetle Bailey, Little Max (from Joe Palooka), Alley Oop, and Archie Andrews and Jughead Jones. (The little kid pulling the wagon is a Wood trademark.) Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 11.5" x 9.5". Excellent condition.
