Wally Wood Goody Bumpkin Fairy-Tale Comic-Strip Pilot Preliminary Original Art Group of 6 (1960s). Wood's visionary brilliance had outgrown MAD and Marvel Comics and Tower Comics, and he found the advertising racket to be lucrative but unfulfilling. While forging his maverick Witzend project, Wood developed Goody Bumpkin as a possibility for comic-strip syndication. The finished work found only a dead-end two-page outlet in Wham-O Giant Comics (1967), a one-shot round-up of unsold pilot features. Wood's pun-charged imagination runs riot in this well-written, conceptually rich tale of a heroic elf and his struggle against wizard Rufus Rottenbad. Graphite on vellum. Image area, 15" x 8". Tape seams on each toned page, with handling wear. Very Good condition.
