Wally Wood Daredevil #5 Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1964). Wally Wood's first Daredevil page... and it's a doozy! This is one of the physically largest Daredevil figures Wood drew during his short run on the title. He measures 16" long from knuckle to toe-tip! Marvel obviously knew what a big deal it was to be getting Wally Wood as the new regular artist on this title. It was such a good idea that they put a very large text block on this page thanking the previous artists (Bill Everett, Joe Orlando, and Vince Colletta) before very excitedly introducing Wally Wood at the new guy! In addition to this being Wood's first DD page, he also introduced the "DD" on Daredevil's chest! Previous to this there was but a single "D" on the costume. The interlinked "DD" design was so strong that when Wood redesigned the costume just two issues later, it was one of the only elements that he kept! This twice-up wonder was rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12.5" x 18.5". The paste-up logo in the top left corner is missing, as is part of a stripped-in text correction (with Joe Orlando's name on it) from the text box. There is glue residue in both places. There is some staining along the left and right sides, and a small touch on Daredevil's leg. The toned page is in Very Good condition.
