Tom Sutton - Planet of the Apes Magazine #17, pages 3 and 4 Original Art (Marvel, 1975). If you want a piece of art that you can look at for quite a while and still see something new each time you gaze into its depths, look no further than this double page spread by Tom Sutton. A overwhelmingly detailed arrangement, the title page to the Doug Moench story, "Graveyard of Lost Cities," is drawn in two layers, a background toned board in ink wash is overlayed with a sheet of translucent mylar, which holds the inked line work. Sutton is renowned for his nigh-obsessive attention to detail, making this a perfect example fo this classic artist's work. The art measures 15" x 21.5" and is in Excellent condition. From the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini. Richard says: "I remember Tom Sutton for creating a very organic style of artwork using both linework and ink wash; there was nothing else like it in comics. Sometimes it could be very appealing, sometimes very disturbing. When I found this double-page spread for sale, it somehow managed to embody both qualities."

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
