Description

Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg Sandman #1 Morpheus First Appearance Issue Story Page 1 Original Art (DC, 1989). A scarce first page from the inaugural issue that anchored Vertigo's flagship title and reshaped modern fantasy in comics. Sam Kieth's expressive linework gives the Sussex estate a brooding presence while Hathaway seeks Burgess inside. Gaiman opens his story with quiet authority as Doctor Hathaway requests an audience with Roderick Burgess. With that simple action, the path toward Morpheus' captivity is set, and the mythology of the Endless takes form. Created in ink, white paint, and Zipatone over graphite and blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 11" x 17.75" (including indicia stat). Panels 2-4 are original art paste-ups. Panel 8 is mostly stat. Slight toning, stat text paste-ups, editorial marks/notes, smudging, Zipatone has yellowed, and some handling wear. In Very Good condition.
