Joe Shuster and Paul Cassidy Action Comics #24 Story Page 11 Original Art (DC, 1940).
Description
Joe Shuster and Paul Cassidy Action Comics #24 Story Page 11 Original Art (DC, 1940). Have we got a super treat for you, boys and girls -- the earliest and only published Superman comic book panel page by co-creator Joe Shuster we've ever offered! Original Shuster pages from Action Comics and Superman are extraordinarily rare, with most long vanished. For decades, DC routinely destroyed original art after publication, often burning it, a practice that lasted into the early 1970s. That alone explains why Golden Age DC art, especially from the late 1930s and early '40s, is so scarce. And this page isn't just rare, it's spectacular. The Man of Steel appears in nearly every panel, in full costume, delivering classic Golden Age action. From the story "Carnahan's Heir", this sequence comes from so early in Superman's history that he doesn't quite fly yet. In Panels 1 and 6, he's finishing one of his trademark super-leaps, a reminder of the character's original "able to leap tall buildings" era.Shuster's signature style is on full display: the iconic spit curl, the narrowed eyes, and the clean, economical linework that helped define an American myth at a time when "funny books" weren't yet taken seriously. This is a gem of a page, a true relic of the Golden Age, and frankly, a small miracle that it survives at all. Created twice-up scale by his co-creator Joe Shuster's pencil, inked by Paul Cassidy on Bristol board with an image area of 13.5" x 19". The board is toned with wrinkles in the upper and lower margins. There are two rips in the lower margin (that does not get into the image area) and was repaired with tape on the reverse side. In Good condition.
