Description

Joe Kubert The Brave and the Bold #15 Story Page 8 Original Art (DC, 1957). Kubert shaped the episodic Viking Prince saga as his homage to Hal Foster's epic comic strip, Prince Valiant. Thus challenged to meet so high a standard, scriptwriter Bill Finger and editor Robert Kanigher lived up to Kubert's self-expectations. All concerned developed The Viking Prince as a Brave and Bold internal series that, in turn, helped DC's most experimental and artistically conceived Silver Age book to live up to its title. In this climactic sequence from "The Viking Genie," the title character poses as a supernatural being in order to "rid one land of a tyrant." A heavy-duty action panel (top) leads to a satisfying denouement. Inscribed by Kubert at upper margin. Ink over blue pencil on Bristol board, with an image area of 13" x 19" (counting the upper-edge logotype). Deeply creased (horizontal folds), with marginal staining and smudging, extending into the illustrated area. Intact, however, and as such in Good condition.
