Graham Nolan and Eduardo Barreto Batman: Vengeance of Bane Special #1 Story Page 18 Original Art (DC, 1993). From the first appearance and origin of Bane! Graham Nolan, notable artist on Detective Comics, brought the menacing and brilliant Batman foe Bane to life in this issue which tells the story of an orphaned child who was left to grow old in prison, only to break free and become one of Gotham's and Bruce Wayne's worst nightmares.This scene shows the dreams of a grown Bane who has learned to escape his cell through mediation and dreams, which he also used as a child to free his mind of fears-- fears that had previously fluttered in his heart. The "bat" on this page represents the act of him chasing the demons in his mind and killing them. Although he had not heard of the Batman as of this page in the story, it's a fascinating build up to the infamy that would later come in the Knightfall storyline, where Bane would break Batman's back, nearly killing him.
The genius-level brute would appear on the big screen in the acclaimed 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises as the main villain, portrayed by Tom Hardy. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Signed by Nolan in the lower right and in Excellent condition.
