Description

George Tuska Crime Does Not Pay #74 Story Page 2 Original Art (Lev Gleason, 1949). In "The 5 Durin Brothers", we find the book's mascot, Mr. Crime, setting up the allegedly true crime saga of a family of reprobates and their schemes to take over their boss' rackets. Their boss, Norden, bears a striking resemblance to Edward G. Robinson in his most famous role as Rico Bandello from Little Caesar; the role was so iconic and memorable that caricatures of Robinson as the gangster became a ubiquitous shorthand for "gangster" in comics and cartoons for decades. Tuska captures his likeness perfectly, along with the five Durin Brothers and their subtle facial expressions that Golden Age comic printers managed to obscure in the reproduction. This page was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12" x 18". Board is moderately toned with moderate to heavy handling and wear in the margins. Editorial and coloring notes in blue tone and graphite. Panel 7 is missing a correction paste-up, leaving glue residue. Lettering correction paste-up in Panel 2 missing. In Very Good condition.
