Bernie Wrightson The Witching Hour #3 " ...And in a Far-Off Land!" Story Page 2 Original Art (DC, 1969). This Frazetta-esque story from early in Bernie Wrightson's career that was first published in The Witching Hour #3 is a real testament to his admiration for Frank Frazetta, and Wrightson was better than most at taking the things about Frazetta's illustrations that he liked and assimilating them into his own style instead of slavishly copying Frazetta's artwork. This page finds an unknown man, pulled through time and space at the behest of an unnamed wizard and his lackey, Wambaf. We find out that he's destined for greatness as a fierce warrior in an origin that mirrors the first appearance of another modern-day man pulled into a fantasy world, Nightmaster, in Showcase #82 just one month prior in 1969. Produced in ink over blue graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". This board, what's left of it, is lightly toned. Production holes and notes in top and bottom margins. The top panel is a large photostat, stripped in to replace the original panel and affixed to the back of the board with production tape. The lettering paste-up is lightly toned, with one lifted corner and glue residue showing. Whiteout corrections on the Bristol board. Signed by Wrightson in the bottom margin.
