Description

Bernie Wrightson and Jeff Jones Swamp Thing #9 Story Page 14 Original Art (DC, 1974). Left for dead in the very swamp that birthed him, Swamp Thing rises from the bayou's murky depths and lives again... if this can still be called living. In the fourth panel, the muck-encrusted monster rises in an image that powerfully echoes the issue's iconic Wrightson cover. Returning to Louisiana in search of a way to undo his transformation, Swamp Thing instead discovers horrors far beyond what he bargained for on this page from "The Stalker From Beyond!" This is prime Wrightson-era Swamp Thing, drawn from his original 10-issue run, a stretch that stands as peak Bronze Age horror even by his own formidable standards. The atmosphere is dense, the swamp textures are almost palpable, and the creature at the center is unmistakably tragic, reading as heartbreaking even at his most terrifying. According to writer Len Wein, the final nine pages of this story were inked by fellow Studio mate Jeffrey Catherine Jones due to deadline pressure. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 14.75". The upper tier of the page, consisting of the first three panels, is a separate bristol strip affixed to the board with tape on the front and back. Light toning, minor staining, smudging, tape residue staining, tape over "Continued..." paste-up, blue pencil editorial marks, whiteout touch-ups, stripped-in text correction held by tape on the back, and light handling wear. Signed by Wrightson in the lower margin and in Very Good condition.
