Steve Stiles (as Ingram) Grave Tales #2 Page 27 Original Art (Hamilton Comics, 1991). The restless ghost of EC Comics mainstay Wally Wood hovers over this fine homage to EC's horror titles of the 1950s. Stiles playfully channels the combined influences of Wood and two other EC stalwarts, Johnny Craig and Graham "Ghastly" Ingels, but the style hews closer to Wood -- especially in the facial contours and the layered application of Zipatone shading film. (Both Stiles and lettering artist Bill Pearson had been associates of Wood during his independent-publisher phase of the 1960s.) The script, here, alludes to the anti-comics purge of the 1950s. Signed on reverse. Ink and various textures of shading film over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10.75" x 15". Faint toning. Excellent condition.
