Steve Ditko Out of This World #3 Cover Original Art (Charlton, 1957). A rock climber finds himself lowering down into the palm of a giant hand, in this "other worldly" cover art by the great Steve Ditko; it's believed to be the earliest published Ditko cover art known to exist. Ditko's 1950s work for Charlton's science-fiction and mystery titles has many ardent fans, and a recently published book, Unexplored Worlds: The Steve Ditko Archives Vol. 2 reprints this cover as it was originally published, in full color. The art for this piece is in ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an approximate image area of 13" x 19.5". The logo masthead is an original, and has become discolored with age; the art image has minor soiling. Overall Very Good condition. The art is signed along the left border.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
