Stephen Bissette and John Totleben Swamp Thing #50 Title/Splash Double Page Spread 2-3 Original Art (DC, 1986). This double page spread features a gorgeous image of Swamp Thing as our hero, flanked by demons, marches side by side into battle with Deadman. As usual, the detail in Totleben's inking is breathtaking, with the many denizens of hell channeling his penchant for delineating undersea creatures. Swamp Thing #50 was in many ways the pinnacle of Alan Moore's brilliant run on Swamp Thing. This magnificent intro to "The End", which was Moore's climactic book end to the epic American Gothic story arc, also features our mythic story tellers Cain and Abel. The sequence showcases what Moore did so well, by bringing fringe characters to the forefront and giving them more depth and character aspect than we had previously known. In this issue he played with the vast history of DC Comics' supernatural characters. What indeed may happen when "our stories of right and wrong may come to their inarguable conclusion...?" These pages were created in ink and white paint over graphite with red ink key lines on two pieces of stock DC Bristol board, conjoined with tape on the backside to form a huge overall image area of 21.5" x 15". The top edge is irregularly trimmed, and some paste-up lettering is discolored; otherwise, in Excellent condition.
