Stan Lynde Rick O'Shay Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 10-1-61 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1961). Some of the loveliest depictions of moving water we've ever seen in a comic strip: Lawman Rick O'Shay and his gunslinger pal, Hipshot Percussion, must cross a river on horseback. Hipshot complains about having to adjust his horse's cinches -- only to realize (in the slapstick final panel) that he really should have re-tightened the saddle. Brilliantly funny, and brilliantly drawn. It is difficult to make water look really wet in an ink composition, but Lynde gets it right throughout -- especially in the lower-left panel. Ink and Zipatone shading over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 27.25" x 12.5". The condition is Very Good, with light toning and marginal staining. From the Ray Edw Collection.
