Will Elder Help! #12 Double Splash Pages 2-3 Goodman Beaver Original Art (Warren, 1961). This two-page spread splash is from one of the most famous of Harvey Kurtzman's stories about this character. It was titled "Goodman Meets T*rz*n". Kurtzman's collaboration on these stories with Will Elder (who signed some of his other works as Bill Elder), would directly lead to a job creating and producing the "Little Annie Fanny" series for Playboy magazine. Kurtzman and Elder drew upon their many years of parody experience working for MAD to create this combination of wordplay and slapstick. Notice the long connected word balloons? That is a MAD hallmark. The art was created in ink over graphite on Duotone board. There are actually two sections of joined board that comprise the 14.5" x 9.5" image area (the smaller section is on the far right), and this was then affixed to two larger illustration board to form the spread. The text is all stat paste-up. The word "it" is missing from the first word balloon; however, "it" is actually still in the frame and visible in the bottom right corner of the matted 16.75" x 11" image area. The pages appeared as Issue Pages 42-43. The art is signed by Elder at the bottom of the left hand page. They are in Excellent condition.
