DescriptionWill Eisner The Spirit Section "The Perfect Crime" Splash Page 1 Original Art dated 1-5-47 (Will Eisner, 1947). This classic Spirit yarn starts off, quite literally, with a bang, as callous crook Baxter ("Ain't you dead yet?") aims his pistol and fires. "The Perfect Crime" involves robbery, murder, a curse (in the third panel) and a superstitious man who dooms himself with worry over being tracked down and captured by the Spirit -- who finally turns up in a hospital bed, where he had been the entire time. Baxter's fear and anticipation bring the story to a boiling climax, in a way Eisner was justly famous for; note the "Crime Does Not Pay" joke in the last panel! This opening page is in ink and graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 13" x 15.5" (leaving the top area blank for the Spirit "Comic Book Section" and newspaper logos to be dropped in). A great Will Eisner splash from his absolute peak period! Very Good condition.
