Description

Wally Wood and Dan Adkins Dynamo #1 "Menace from the Moon" Splash Page 1 Original Art (Tower, 1966). Mike Benton, in Masters of Imagination, defined the appeal of Wally Wood's inking, "During his lifetime, Wood was the undisputed master of inking and he used light and shadow to create rich effects of reflection, depth, and contrast seldom seen in comics. He explained his approach to inking: 'First outline everything, go back and ink everything black that should be black, and then make a few things black that shouldn't be black.' Black ink defined Wood's work and his bold outlines and black draping made his art instantly recognizable." Tower comics often featured Wood's poster-like covers and splashes in their titles, and they have seldom been matched for their sheer beauty. The "big blue boyscout," Dynamo, runs for his life on the moon as he is strafed by a super-streamlined UFO. Dan Adkins and Wally Wood set up the deadly showdown in this title page for "Menace on the Moon." You get the best of two Wood specialties in one Silver Age spectacular -- super-heroics and science fiction. This page has an image area that measures 12" x 18", and aside from a title logo stat that has darkened and some paper aging, the page is in Very Good condition.
