    Description

Stan Goldberg Millie the Model Comics #102 Splash Page Original Art (Marvel Comics, 1961). The great Marvel Makeover of 1961-62 was just beginning to stir, with Fantastic Four #1 months away and Amazing (Adult) Fantasy soon to become a launch-pad for a character called Spider-Man. Otherwise, the scene was business as usual for the old-line publisher, whose Millie the Model titles had been appearing since 1945. Goldberg, editor Stan Lee's signature glamour-girl artist, had perfected the style that he would later move to the rival Archie line. Here, Goldberg pictures Millie boarding a municipal bus, with an impatient motorman. Signed by Lee. A fan named Linda Davies is credited with designing Millie's wardrobe. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12.75" x 18.75". Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
