Sheldon Mayer - Original Sugar and Spike Art for Best of DC #41 (DC, 1983). One of the most beloved comics of DC's Silver Age, Sugar and Spike told the story of two toddlers who could understand each other, but whose baby talk was incomprehensible to adults. The "children" of the great Sheldon Mayer, Sugar and Spike have been favorites to a generation of comics readers. For a comic that ran for over 15 years, artwork from this series is unbelievably hard to find, and is snatched up by avid fans as soon as it surfaces. This piece was created for the back cover of the Best of DC Digest #41, which reprinted a select few Sugar and Spike stories. Beautifully rendered by Mayer, this piece measures approximately 12.75" x 17", with notes (presumably in Mayer's hand) around the borders. A wonderful, whimsical piece that recalls memories of a kinder, gentler time.
