    Description

Sam Kweskin and John Tartaglione Sub-Mariner #59 Splash Page (Marvel Comics, 1973). Bill Everett, creator of the Golden Age Sub-Mariner franchise, has a "story and art" credit in this page's original lettering, but an editorial amendment (lower margin) re-attributes the collaborative art to Kweskin and Tartaglione. The same revised credits change Everett's billing to "plot," with a finished script by Steve Gerber. A striking page, even without Everett's distinctive pictorial style, in that it depicts Namor, the Sub-Mariner, dwarfed by the towering figure of a bad guy called Lorvex. This issue appeared shortly before Everett's death in 1973. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Moderate toning and extensive marginal editorial notations. Very Good condition.
