Description

Ron Frenz and Joe Rubinstein Amazing Spider-Man #256 Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1984). An early Symbiote Spider-Man splash released a few months before the origin of the costume in Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8! This was just the fourth splash page in this series to show Spidey in the black costume: #252 had two, #254 had one, and #253 and #255 had zero. Spider-Man always struck fear into criminals who were unlucky enough to face him, but after donning the black suit, the bad guys saw their fear personified! Symbiote Spidey was an instant fan-favorite, and to this day, pages with the costume before becoming Venom garner a premium price with collectors -- as seen with the recent record-breaking sale of the black suit's origin which sold for an unparalleled $3,360,000 in January! This page was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15.25". Slight toning, stat spider-man symbol at the top, and indicia paste-up at the bottom, production trimmed top edge and corners, marginal notes, whiteout corrections, with some staining, smudging, and handling wear. In Very Good condition. Includes a copy of the comic.
