    Description

Martin Nodell Green Lantern Unpublished Splash Page Original Art (DC, c. 1947). This opening page for a story titled "Love Comes to Doiby Dickles" was apparently created for Comic Cavalcade #21 (based on the "CC21" next to the hairy-legged "woman"), but was unused. A correction marked for the introduction (substituting "mayhem" for "merriment") was not made, leading us to believe the story was shelved and written off when Comic Cavalcade switched to an all-humor format. It's a fascinating look at an unseen Golden Age story starring one of DC/All American's leading characters, the original Green Lantern. Artist Marty Nodell was long associated with Alan "Green Lantern" Scott, drawing his likeness for fans attending comic conventions for many years before his passing in 2006. The art is in ink and graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 13" x 18"; other than soiling, the page is in Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
