    Description

Kieron Dwyer and Denis Rodier - Original Splash Page Art for Action Comics #720, pages 2 and 3 (DC, 1996). A distressed Man of Steel glides effortlessly over the great city of Metropolis in this sombre piece, which was penciled by Kieron Dwyer and inked by Denis Rodier. In this historic issue of Action Comics, Lois Lane breaks off her engagement to Clark Kent just before the wedding. Kieron Dwyer knew the value of this page from the start, as his note on the back to inker Rodier indicates: "I would be willing to trade virtually any other pages to have it." He certainly knew what he was talking about and this page is spectacular. The overall page size is 17" x 21" with a 15.5" x 20.25" image area. The work is clean and bright, with only four crop marks, two at the top and two at the bottom, to mar otherwise spotless art.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
