Description

Kenneth Pauling Riley Young Love #3 "Match Makers" Title Page 1 Original Art (Prize Comics, 1949). Riley delivered a four-year run of fine, painterly comic-book stories for editor Joe Simon. Simon liked this page so well that he kept it in his private collection. Riley had been a combat illustrator during World War II. He graduated from comics to such slicks as The Saturday Evening Post and National Geographic -- and from there, into acclaim as a gallery painter specializing in Native American imagery. The present selection has great faces, great ensemble compositions, and great light-and-shadow placement. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 13" x 18". Conspicuous toning and marginal staining/deterioration. One patch of lettering is missing. Good condition.
