John Byrne and Jerry Ordway Fantastic Four #278 Doctor Doom Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1985). "The Time Has Come!" Dr. Victor von Doom is front and center on this dynamic splash by John Byrne. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Doctor Doom made his first appearance in Fantastic Four #5 (1962). Since that time, his green cowl and metal mask have adorned trading cards, action figures, and posters, and he's been featured in television, video games, and feature films. Wizard Magazine ranked him the 4th Greatest Villain of all time.
John Byrne really revitalized the character during his six-year tenure on the book, beginning with FF #236, a time many fans feel was a "second golden age" for the title. Doctor Doom appeared in a number of Byrne's storylines, which helped to further develop his character. This splash page from issue #278 has to be the high point of his version; it's a must for any Byrne fan. The art is in ink, graphite, blue pencil, and shading film on Bristol board, with an approximate image area of 10" x 13". One area of film has started to lift up, but is still complete. All four page corners are clipped, and there is a bit of tanning to the page, but it will display well. Overall Very Good condition. The page is signed to the right of Doom's head.
