    Description

Jim Starlin and Chic Stone Captain Marvel #25 Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1973). The Kree-born Captain Mar-Vell gained cosmic powers and became a defender of Earth against his own people. With the Kree race playing a big part in TV's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and a Carol Danvers Captain Marvel movie scheduled for 2018, interest in this character is catching on. This issue, Mar-Vell gets "A Taste of Madness," which might account for the indicia at the bottom of the page (a replacement, we might add) saying that it is issue #27 when this splash page is clearly from issue #25 instead! This version of Captain Marvel is one of the characters most closely associated with Jim Starlin. Starlin's blue pencils were followed up with Stone's inks on this 10.5" x 16" Bristol board. Slight tanning. In Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
