Jim Mooney, Biljo White, and Frank Springer The Invaders #16 Captain America/Major Victory Splash Page 17 Original Art (Marvel, 1977). For his yarn "The Short, Happy Life of Major Victory," former Alter-Ego editor Roy Thomas recruited his old art editor and friend Bill J. White (aka Biljo) to provide the pencils for an "origin" sequence depicting Major Victory in the pages of his own comic book, being read by a shocked Captain America. Cartoony, yet dynamic, the style was very familiar to readers of '60s fanzines like Komix Illustrated and Star-Studded Comics, where Biljo did his best work. This page from The Invaders is virtually the only work Biljo did for either of the "Big Two" publishers, and is a prize for any fan of comic fandom. The Biljo art was produced on a separate sheet of paper which has been taped onto the larger board; the surrounding head and hands of Captain America were drawn by mainstay penciler Jim Mooney, and the entire page was inked by Frank Springer for a cohesive look. This star-spangled splash has an image area of 10" x 15", and aside from a clipped upper right corner, the art is in Very Good condition.
