Jim Lee (Over a Lightboxed Jack Kirby Drawing) Phantom Force #2 "The Once and Future Probe" Bonus Pin-Up Illustration Original Art (Image/Genesis West, 1994). Two of the greatest storytellers in the entire history of American comics teamed, in a fashion, to create this pin-up. The master of Modern comics, Jim Lee, added his distinctive inking technique atop a lightboxed version of the "King's" pulse-pounding pencils for a pin-up of Probe that can't be topped. The Phantom Force included the kung-fu fighter Gin Seng, the cosmic-powered swordsman Apocalypse, and the mysterious woman named Probe. Phantom Force first appeared in Last of the Viking Heroes #4. That title was part of Jack Kirby's Genesis West line of independent comics. The PF title came about as a result of a display of some unpublished Kirby pencil sketches to Image co-founder Rob Liefeld. Mike Thibodeaux had co-created Phantom Force with Jack Kirby, and was looking for a publisher. The Image Comics crew, great admirers of Kirby's, quickly agreed to help out. The title appeared in 1993 as one of Kirby's last completely penciled stories, and featured inks and colors by virtually everyone at Image. Phantom Force #0 features some of the last work of the King. Sadly, Jack Kirby died in 1994 before the story could fully develop. This page has an image area of 10" x 15" and the art is in Excellent condition. Signed by Jim Lee.
