Jim Lee and Scott Williams X-Men #2 Magneto Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1991). Arguably the most famous portrait of Magneto in the X-Men's 61-year history, this image is immediately recognizable to X-Fans as the opening to the second issue of Jim Lee's record-shattering adjectiveless X-Men series! The page features a dynamic close-up of the helmeted Master of Magnetism, gritting his teeth while making his intentions to protect his new followers, the Acolytes, known. Lee took the villain back to basics in this significant three-issue opening arc, reestablishing him as a major threat to humanity after a decade of the character working alongside the X-Men, and even serving as headmaster of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters for a time. Outside of comics, this portrait has been repurposed far and wide -- from t-shirts, to action figure packaging, and video game cut scenes!Rendered in ink over graphite, blue pencil, and Zipatone on Marvel Comics Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 14", the board has a detached vellum overlay with Zipatone shaped in the outline of Magneto's helmet (including the gleam), providing the printed page with a striking textured background. The board has header, indicia, and word balloon paste-ups with residue stains (some of which have migrated beyond the paste-ups), discolored production tape, whiteout, spot stains, and marginal notes. The iconic illustration has been signed by Lee and is in otherwise Excellent condition.
