Jack Sparling Monty Hall of the U.S. Marines #6 "Pin-Up Pete" Splash Original Art (Toby Press, 1951). Pete, the U.S. Marines' leading collector of glamour-girl pictures, regales his foxhole buddies with the promise of "a coupla choice ... tootsies who was lucky enough to catch me eye..." The page as published served as a lead-in to a brief portfolio. A reprint followed in 1952, with a one-shot anthology called Pin-Up Pete. Sparling, the artist most often associated with this character, is channeling the influence of Milton Caniff, whose secondary specialty in Good Girl Art had defined the style and attitude of Terry and the Pirates and Male Call during World War II. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an approximate image area of 12" x 18". Title is a stat paste-up. Light toning and adhesive discoloration. Otherwise in Very Good condition.

More Information: EDIT: Sparling art confirmed.
