Description
Jack Kirby and Paul Reinman - Journey Into Mystery #102, Thor Splash Page 1 Original Art (Marvel, 1964). A teenaged Thor confronts three foreboding figures in this spooky splash from "'Death' Comes to Thor." Jack Kirby loved the old Norse legends and during the sixties, he worked them into back-up yarns for Journey Into Mystery. The blurb at the bottom of this splash notes that the "'Tales of Asgard' feature has won itself a permanent place in the Marvel roster of fabulous features." This moody scene is imbued with a stormy tension -- the kind only "King" Kirby could create for Thor! Paul Reinman added his sinuous inking to create a sensational Silver Age finish for this Marvel milestone, and Artie Simek's lettering is nothing less than terrific. The image area of this splash page measures 12.5" x 18.5". Aside from a missing pasted-on thought balloon to the right of Thor's head (easily replaced, if so desired) and a few small stains, the art is in Excellent condition.More information about Jack Kirby.
